What is ii2030?
ii2030 is a catalytic process that begins with a problem and an opportunity and ends with the implementation of the prototype of a systemic solution. It catalyzes collaboration amongst innovators from corporates, startups, the public sector, NGOs and science. Solutions are developed in tracks around tech-based opportunities. ii2030 is an impactful, action oriented collaborative process.
The Challenge
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) define targets for a more sustainable, inclusive society. They represent more than a $12 trillion value creation opportunity, according the Business Council for Sustainable Development. But to get there, we need innovation at the systems level, we need transformative change.
The Solution
Innovating at the systems level requires co-creation of multiple actors from diverse sectors. The tracks at ii2030 identify a concrete tech-based opportunity for systems change. On this basis, curators bring together the right set of actors into an effective process that leads up to the implementation of a prototype solution.

ii2030 is bold and needed!
Long-lasting innovations are not created overnight and alone. They are created over time by a collection of people.
ii2030 was a fantastic open innovation event to not only brainstorm solutions for services and products, but also to identify potential collaboration partners for a drone network in Sub-Saharan Africa.
ii2030 delivered on what most events don't - the conceptualization of concrete innovation initiatives for development.
How we change systems
Every event is organized into tracks. A track has a focus technology a challenge that is trying to be resolved and a carefully curated group of participants that bring a diversity of perspectives. Each tracks works through the 3 phases of our ii2030 process.
Consultation
It begins with a problem that we perceive as an opportunity
Each ii2030 track starts with an open expert consultation to understand challenges in the system and identify leverage points for change. Videos and blog posts describe the specific challenge from the perspective of different stakeholders. We engage a wide audience to learn about existing solutions, the people behind and the constraints they face. We also identify participants for the co-creation phase.
Co-Creation
...goes on to co-create a system solution with a diverse group of innovators...
In the co-creation phase, a small group of core stakeholders develop a prototype solution to reconfigure the system using our systems design methods. Innovators get exposed, inspired and connect deeply with partners that provide a context for testing and stand ready to lead the implementation.
Implementation
...and ends with a concrete action on the ground that brings us closer to our vision.
Each ii2030 track ends with concrete action on the ground that brings us closer to our vision. The systemic solution is tested in collaboration with track participants in at least one location. Additional partners are signed up as needed. Once implementation is complete results are assessed, the solution is refined and steps are taken to scale impact.
Results
Since 2017, Endeva has run 11 ii2030 tracks around tech-based opportunities. And we are implementing the change. Past tracks have successfully completed pilots, supported policy dialogue and spurred bilateral partnerships.
Last-mile delivery through drones in Nigeria
An outcome of the ii2030 drone track in 2017 was the creation of the Drones Doing Good Alliance – a network of partners that explore how drone technology can accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. In 2019, the alliance enabled the Nigerian company LifeBank to be the first African-led company to execute bidirectional Beyond-Visual-Line-of-Sight flights for healthcare logistics. The DDG Alliance is continuing to implement disruptive and systemic solutions in the drone sector in Africa.
Precision agriculture in India
The 2017 track explored the opportunity of satellite-enabled comprehensive risk management for smallholders in India. It generated two pilots, which are currently underway. In Gujarat, remote sensing data is used to enhance the existing government-led insurance scheme PMFPY by assessing damages and informing farmers. In Odisha, agricultural advisory services are combined with access to credit, using satellite data to enhance the credit profile.
Grid-integration in Bangladesh
The result of the ii2030 energy track in 2019 was the creation of a regulatory sandbox in Bangladesh which allows bidirectional integration of DC and AC powered mini-grids into the national grid. Grid integration has multiple benefits: It can increase grid stability and allow more people to access electricity at a lower cost. The sandbox is currently being piloted by our implementation partner SOLshare.
